Scientists and experts from various European countries gathered for the fifth edition of the TusnadEcoBear conference, held from 20 to 23 October in the Carpathian Mountains, to exchange experiences, knowledge and proposals aimed at improving coexistence between people and large carnivores.
The Brown Bear Foundation (FOP) was represented by Marina Gaona, Project Coordinator, and José Vicente López-Bao, researcher at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC-IMIB) and scientific advisor to the Foundation. They presented two studies focusing on conflict prevention and the socioeconomic benefits of brown bear conservation. Both studies were carried out within the framework of the LIFE project Human Bear Coex, coordinated by the FOP.

These international gatherings provide an excellent opportunity to continue learning, strengthen collaboration between scientists and conservation organisations, and showcase the applied research carried out by the Brown Bear Foundation (FOP) to promote coexistence between bears and people.
Romania, home to one of the largest brown bear populations in Europe, once again provides an ideal setting to gain first-hand insight into the challenges of coexistence in other regions and to share experiences and solutions that help
reconcile species conservation with human activities.
The presentation abstracts are available on the conference website via this link.
This activity is part of the LIFE Human Bear Coex project, which is funded by the European Union.
