Between 25 and 27 February, the Brown Bear Foundation (FOP) participated in the LIFE ARCPROM International Conference, held in Larissa, Greece, where it presented the challenges and experiences related to coexistence with the growing brown bear population in the Cantabrian Mountains.
The objectives and achievements of the LIFE Human Bear Coex project, coordinated by FOP, were presented to an audience of nearly 200 scientists and representatives of environmental organisations and universities from Spain, Greece, Italy, Albania, North Macedonia and Bulgaria. The sessions were also attended by a broader audience interested in environmental issues, wildlife and biodiversity.
During the Conference, the methodologies applied, the results achieved and the challenges encountered during the implementation of various LIFE projects related to human-bear coexistence and funded by the European Union were presented and discussed. Particular emphasis was placed on the potential for knowledge exchange, as well as the replicability and transferability of best practices and successful management techniques among participants from different regions and contexts.
