During this summer, Brown Bear Foundation (Fundacion Oso Pardo, FOP) teams have continued with the collection of autochthonous seeds for the LIFE Bear Defragmentation project and others. Past autumn, more than 175 kg of seeds were collected in bear areas and this summer another 270 kg of cherries (Prunus avium), plums (Prunus insititia) and buckthorn berries (Rhamnus alpina) have been gathered and will produce more than one hundred thousand new trees. FOP teams are still collecting fruits of whitebeam (Sorbus aria), rowan (Sorbus aucuparia), crab apple (Malus sylvestris) and others.
All seeds have been carried to the Central Forest Nursery of the Castilla y Leon regional government when, in compliance with a collaboration agreement with FOP, new trees are going to be prepared for the LIFE reforestation actions.
